I have been too busy to post recently. In late April I returned to San Diego Maritime Museum to sail on a reproduction 16th Century Spanish Galleon. In early May I visited Santa Ynez Valley. Then in late May I went to San Francisco.

I am still working on All Rise, helped out 7 days on Truth Be Told, and squeezed in 5 days on The Company You Keep.

It was Father's Day seven years ago that I found my dog under a bush. He was lost, scared, confused, lonely. Today he is happy.

I've been busy the last month. I took a trip to Santa Cruz over Easter, Joy stayed home. I am still working on the roadtrip article from the trip. Since I was away at Easter, my family gathered last Saturday for lunch. I am working, trying to get the house and yard in order, and trying to sell old toys and collectables on ebay.

It's taken a while, but I finally finished my Road Trip article from my trip to Riverside, Imperial, and San Diego Counties last February.

I am an hour and a half away from doing tours at the Oakridge Estate for the first time in over two years. Parks and Recreation for Los Angeles is finally allowing tours again after Covid. The restriction is a maximum of 14 people in a room at one time including two docents, so we had to rehears moving two groups of twelve through the house without the two tours ever crossing in the same room. We shall see how it goes and fix any problems before the next tour in about a month.

What happened to 30 day billing? Last week I received a bill due in 5 days, yesterday a bill due in 8 days, and a bill yesterday due yesterday to a new insurnace servicer for insurance for which I already paid the $3,000 bill to the old servicer two weeks ago.

My cat spent the day at the vet getting her very dirty teeth cleaned. It was lonely without her but now she doesn't have bad breath.

Tuesday, March 29, 2022

I received a bill today. It is due in 5 days. No wonder I pay all my bill late.

Today I visited the Maritime Museum of San Diego, the San Diego Presidio, and the Serra Museum. It will be a while before I post the photos, but I've been to all before, you can view my older photos: Maritime Museum of San Diego, San Diego Presidio, Serra Museum.

We went to two museum exhibits today. At the California Science Museum we saw the Angkor exhibit which was quite interesting. Then we saw the Becoming Jane exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. I have been a volunteer at NHM for over 30 years, but the last two the volunteer program has been on hiatus because of Covid. (I'll add photos soon)

I was so excited to see scans of the slides from the film I exposed on my recent trip. I had dusted off my film camera and found a roll of film in the refrigerator that had been there for almost 20 years. The scans looked great.

It took a while but I finally finished updating my web page of Salvation Mountain after my trip last month. I had visited in 2009 when Leonard was still alive and maintaining the giant art piece, today it is suffering and needs help.

This was a very stressful day. We returned from grocery shopping early in the morning and Joy's 10 month old kitten was no where to be found. By late afternoon we were convinced she snuck out while we were unloading groceries. We tore the house apart, beat the bushes, put out fliers, told the neighbors. Joy was so upset and crying, convinced she had lost her baby. Finally way past her dinner time, she just appeared. Joy was so relieved.

National boundaries.
State borders.
County lines.
City limits.

Why is 'kitten' spelled with a 'K' and 'cat' is spelled with a 'c'? Why not 'citten' and 'kat'? It would sound the same. Or better, both spelled with a 'k'.

Since I did today's stop yesterday, I decided to add two stops for today, but the weather was bad and the second stop wasn't open on Mondays, so I just got home early. Joy and the animals were happy to have me home early. I hope to publish my Road Trip article in a few days.

Day two I drove around Salten Sea. I did find Salvation Mountain. I had visited several year ago when Lennard Knight was still alive and working on the giant art piece every day, so it was sad to see the deterioration since Lennard's death. Next I visited one of the mud pots sites,. There are others but I have been unable to get exact locations of them. By the time I had rounded the south end of the Sea and was half way back, I was still ahead of schedule so I moved up my stop for tomorrow to today and visited Borego Springs. There are about 100 metal sculptures of animals scattered over thousands of acres of desert. It was almost dark when I got back to the hotel.

For the second time in two months I left for a trip without Joy who chose to stay home. I first visited General Patton Memorial Museum. We had visited about three years ago just before they installed new exhibits. I wanted to see the new exhibits. Next I visited the Coachella Valley History Museum with its famous submarine. I was ahead of schedule and the people at the museum suggested that I visit Shields Date Garden which I enjoyed.

Thursday, December 30, 2021

It is Joy's Birthday today. Another 365 days enjoying life.

Thursday, December 30, 2021

It is so nice to be getting such a good rain, first in years. The 15 minutes of sprinklers once a week never reaches the deep roots of the trees and shrubs. I hope we also get a lot of snow in the Sierras from where our water comes. And having just last Sunday seen Lake Mead over 100 feet below normal and only a little over 100 feet above the minimum to operate the generators and deliver water, I hope the western Rockies get a lot of snow or we will be in trouble in a few more years.

December 29, 2021

I awoke early and couldn't get back to sleep so I packed up and checked out by 7:30. Aside from a half hour nap at a rest area east of Barstow, I drove through arriving home at 1:00. It was only 5 days, 2 for travl, down from the original 9 days, but it was good to be home. Then I did errands all afternoon. I hope to publish the Roadtrip article in a few days.

My dog missed me. So did the other dog and my cat.

December 28, 2021

This was a day mostly of disappointments. I arrived at the Springs Preserve and it turned out to be closed the next three days. I enjoyed the Mormon Fort and Natural History Museum. Then I drove to the Spring Mountain Ranch where it was too cold and windy, my glasses kept fogging, and I was too tired to look for the buildings that I think were somewhere. By the time I reached the Atomic Test Site Museum, they were closing an hour and a half earlier than I expected and the Neon Museum required reservations which I didn't have. I could have seen the latter two museum tomorrow, but I had already canceled the rest of the trip and plan to leave early tomorrow.

December 27, 2021

Today was stressful because just before reaching St. George, Utah, the electrical indicator of my car started blinking. I finally found a mechanic with time to check over the car and he found no problem. Then it did it again just as I headed back but then was fine the rest of the way back. No one wants intermittent auto electrical problems 500 miles from home.

Between car problems I did manage to visit St. George Dinosaur Discovery Museum which I very much enjoyed. It is at Johnson's farm which confused me at first because the farm is now development. The building was constructed around the rocks containing dinosaur tracks and other fossils.

Since the indication light never came back I did drive through Valley of Fire, so named I assume because of the bright red rocks. Still I had lost so much time earlier in the day, I only had time to drive through and take a few photos. It was quite dark by the time I reached my hotel.

December 26, 2021

It took a while and some bad directions from MapQuest but eventually I reached Hoover Dam. It was quite crowded by the time ia got there and I stayed about 2 hours. There are no tours because of Covid but still lots to see. It was alarming to see how low the water is. About 100 feet below ideal and 100 feet above the intakes. If the water drops below that, it is just a lake. Even the boat launches don't go down that far.

After I finished at the dam, I visited the Nevada State Railroad Museum and drove through Historic Bolder.

When we first planned this trip years ago, I had a note about Ethel M. Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden but had forgotten the details. By luck I arrived just before the tour of the cactus garden by reservations started, so I had them to myself for about 15 minutes. All the cactus were draped in colored lights and supplemented with figures. It was beautiful.

December 25, 2021

This trip is a bit strange. Joy has wanted to go to Las Vegas since we met. After canceling many times she lost interest and I still wanted to do all the interesting things I discovered, so I am here in Las Vegas alone. All I did today was get there. I left about 8:00 but made several stops so I didn't get to Las Vegas until about 4:00. First I stopped at Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch which was surreal. A quick stop at Baker to see the world's Tallest Thermometer. Zzyzx Road had some rough spots and I'm glad I took my 20 year old wagon, the Mustang never would have made it. More about these soon on my web site.

Friday, December 24, 2021

I was carrying a large bag of cat food in one arm and other things in the other when the phone rang. Since I was expecting an important returned call, I struggle to get the phone to my ear. "This is Jake from Discover Card Services..." I canceled Discover Card nearly 20 years ago, don't bother me.

Plumbers finished. Last February he broke the plastic cleanout cap, snaked through the hole, and glued the part back. This time it leaked. I insisted that he remove the rest of the old cap and install a new one. Since the pipes are old, hair will probably get caught again so I hope next time it doesn't leak.

Wednesday, December 22, 2021

Live sure can be interesting. Monday morning as Joy washed her hair in the sink, it stopped up. Then we noticed the cabinet below the sinks was flooded. We cleaned up the mess, throwing away lots of cardboard packaging. It wasn't till Tuesday morning that the plumbers showed up. Even though I kept saying that I thought the blockage was after the leaking cleanout, they spent an hour running a snake down both sink drains. Dirty water splashed everywhere. It was so noisy for an hour, all the animals hid. We weren't expecting them to make such a mess so we hadn't cleared all the soap, shampoo, lotion, perfume, candles, and other objects which were now all covered with sewer mess. I should have taken a photo, we couldn't believe the mess. Anyway, they said the snake kinked and they would come back later. It is now Wednesday and they promise to come at 9 today. We shall see.

I started on All Rise today. This is season 3. The show was canceled at the end of season 2 and the sets were struck by a scenery company and never expected to be set up again. The parts arrived in random order and it has been a puzzle to restand the sets. In addition, the new stage space is smaller with columns, so the sets had to be reconfigured. As I arrived, most of the sets on one stage are standing but the drawings need to be updated to the changes.

Happy Sunday. Only 378 days till Christmas.

I did Set Design on a Superbowl Commercial last week. I can't say anything about it except watch for a castle.

I've been sick the last three weeks but getting better. I think it was triggered by rat droppings while cleaning the garage, but the doctor thinks it's just a cold, but I don't usually get this sick from a cold.

I start a new job tomorrow but more on that later.

Sunday, December 11, 2021

I had some frustration today. It seems half the TV shows I watch are on the History Channel. Wednesday, AT&T/ Direct TV dropped History Channel from my package. They said it was included in the bigger package and I said I wouldn't pay extra for what I had 3 days ago and since they cut half the shows I watch, maybe they should cut my bill in half. They added it back on an individual basis.
