Disneyland and I are the same age, so every ten years, on the 0s, we visit to celebrate. This was the 70th Anniversary. There were several new and changed attractions since our last visit, so it was time. We left a half hour late and arrived at 8;00. Fortunately, there are restrooms behind the bottom of the escalators. After getting through security, my wife sent me back to the car for her phone. Finally inside a hour behind schedule, we first caught the train to Frontierland. We shot a few photographs on the way to Star Wars. A quick stop at the restroom before getting in line for Rise of the Resistance (45 minutes). The queue is themed so it seems quick. There is an Intro, then we were shuttled to the shuttle. The shuttle is a simulator in which we are captured by the bad guys. They take us to their ship where we are interrogated, but escape in a fun vehicle that follows random paths, each ride is unique. After, we took a short break in the marketplace and moved on. My wife sat out Smugler's Run which is another simulator ride. I did the single rider line so it went quickly. This time I was engineer. After the ride, I found her and we ambled on to Tiana's Bayou Adventure. This was a 55 minute wait. After 20 minutes, the ride broke down so we walked back to Indiana Jones. My wife was confused, expecting a stunt show like the one we had seen at Walt Disney World two years earlier. The queue went quickly and we bounced through the ride in vehicles. My wife rested again while I road Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, This replaced Mine Train Through Natures Wonderland which I liked, but pieces of this wonderful old ride still remain. Some of the track has been left, well distressed with boulders and washed out bridges. The tunnel that once separated the beaver valley from the bear valley is still there and some of the Rainbow Ridge buildings still form a backdrop. It's a fast scenic roller-coaster and was over all too quickly. I wanted to ride the Columbia sailing ship, but it was dry docked, I found my wife and after a restroom break, we rode the Mark Twain steamboat. The boat sails the Rivers of America which was made slightly smaller to cram in the Star Wars area. We were still a half hour early for lunch so my wife rested while I climbed the Swiss Family Tree House. Originally built as the Swiss Family Treehouse, it was, for a time, the Tarzan Treehouse, but was changed back a few years ago. Then lunch at River Belle Terrace. There are two seatings, breakfast until 2:00 and dinner after. I ordered BBQ Burnt Ends Pasta and my wife got Buttermilk Fried Chicken. We both had Blueberry Cobbler, my wife with ice cream, me without. Another quick stop at the restroom and then the long line to Tiana's Bayou Adventure again. Again after 20 minutes, it broke down. We took the train from Frontierland to Toontown (30 minute wait). Next, a different train. Mickey's and Minnie's Runaway Railway is another ride with independent ride vehicles, each following an independent course so each ride is slightly different. We rode this at Walt Disney World and it was great fun. Next was another long wait for the train at the Toontown station. I got off in Tomorrowland, my wife stayed on to Frontierland. I intended to use the single rider line at Space Mountain, but the line wasn't available. It was getting late and there wasn't time to wait in a long line so I hiked across to Frontierland. My wife almost stayed on the train because they only announced New Orleans Square and I told her to get off at Frontierland. They scolded her for exiting just before the train left, but they should have said Frontierland. The queue for Pirates of the Caribbean was quick. Always a winner, we enjoyed this last attraction for the day. My wife wanted a Dole Whip on the way out, but it was too late. We shopped Main Street on the way out, but struck out again. The Disneyland watches were out of my price range. The 70th anniversary mouse caps were not available yet. There is a Walt Disney attraction opening in a few months. We were unable to see two redesigned attractions and a few favorites were closed, so we may return next fall. |
