Knotts Berry Farm, 2025

It had been ten or fifteen years since our last visit to Knott's Berry Farm and as I am getting older, I was thinking this might be my last. We arrived about 9:00 AM , a bit earlier than I expected. I walked over to photograph Independence Hall while my wife used the restroom. Then through the tunnel under Beach Boulevard, through security, and we waited for the gates to open.

We entered about 9:45 but were only able to mill around just inside. At 10:00 AM the Star Spangled Banner played and we were allowed in. My wife needed the restroom again, then we got in line for the Mine Train.

This train rumbled through a mine with stalagmights, miners, and colored pools of water. It is a slower ride, not one of the many roller-coasters in the park. It's always been one of my favorites.

We then wallked the short distance to the Log Ride. My wife sat this one out. This ride goes through more mining scenes and ends in a big splash.

It was a short walk to another train. The cars for this train were built in the 1880s for the Denver and Rio Grand Western Railroad. This is a slow trip around the southwest side of the park.

Next we walked to Berry Tales which is a slow ride past 3D projections (glasses required). It is made for children and is "4D" because there are infrared guns with which to shoot characters. It wasn't far to the next stop.

It was 11:45 when we arrived at the Butterfield Stagecoach which doesn't open til Noon, so we waited. It's another of the slow classic rides from the beginning days. It fits about a half dozen people inside and about eight on top. It it not a high capacity ride, but it's nice to slow down once in a while and remember Pioneer days.

From here we walked to Casa California for lunch, a burrito bowl for each of us.

My wife wanted to ride the Mexican Hat Dance. She likes spinning. Then to the opposite corner for Roaring Rapids.

This was the longest line and my wife sat it out. I got a little wet. I came out soaked, so I didn't mind much when it started raining. It rained off and out as I waited in line for Ghost Rider which was suppose to be my only roller-coaster for the day. The line was long and some people waiting got irritated at all the teenagers pushing ahead to meet friends. I suggested to one large group that maybe their friends up ahead should wait for them. Shortly after I entered the enclosed part of the queue, the park shut down many or all rides due to rain and lightning, including Ghost Rider. After about ten minutes of deliberation, I decided to leave the line and join my wife in one of the shops. She bought a poncho and as we left the shop, it stopped raining.

We were finished, so we exited and walked to the Chicken Dinner Restaurant. There was some confusion over the reservation,. The on-line reservation system had made the reservation for the day before. We were 23 and a half hours late. None-the-less, we only waited about fifteen minutes for a wonderful Mrs. Knott's Famous Fried Chicken.

Once we had enjoyed our dinner, we limped back to the car and headed home.
