Fray Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. O.F.M.

1736-1803
Victoria, Spain

Fray Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. O.F.M. was born in Victoria, Spain in 1736. He joined the Franciscan Order in 1751. He was sent to the College of San Fernando in Mexico City in 1759.

He labored in Mexico and Baja, California until 1775 when he was assigned to Mission San Diego.

Fray Lasuen was selected to be the second Presidente of the Missions, succeeding Fr. Serra. He established nine missions.

Fr. Fermin Lasuen built an adobe shelter in San Pedro in 1796. Lasuen considered a mission site in San Pedro area., possibly at Point Fermin which bares his name. The site is at the Engineer Building, Building 91 near Quartermaster Road and Quartermaster Court, Middle Reservation, Fort MacArthur/Los Angeles Air Force Base Housing and access is limited. The building no longer exists, but the site is 2500 S. Pacific Avenue, San Pedro, CA 90731
